What makes us different?
From humble beginnings with a very small team and one nursery, Little Garden now has four nurseries in prime London locations. Although we have grown, there’s still this feeling of family that really makes Little Garden a very special place to work, and a special place for our children to spend time, have fun and learn.
Our people are a passionate lot, united in creating something really special and something different. Whenever you enter one of our nurseries, or come to our Clapham Support Centre, you’ll feel part of it. It’s always been like this. It’s in our DNA and it was ignited within us from the moment we opened the first nursery.
To make each day special, there’s lots of hard work involved with lots of different kinds of people doing different jobs. It’s the fact we all love working with children, believe in what we do and have a lot of fun doing it that really helps us pull together to create the fantastic high quality childcare that we’ve become known for.
It’s hard to bottle what makes us different, but it’s got a lot to do with the warmth and natural friendliness that you’ll experience from our people. It’s not something that’s easy to describe, but you’ll know it when you see it. It’s in our blood.
It’s the reason that parents choose to entrust us with their children again and again. Because when you enjoy caring for children and seeing them develop into wonderful young people as much as we do, the feeling to have enriched someone’s early years journey is truly overwhelming.
Our CEO, David Hancock, has a very simple view on why Little Garden is such a wonderful place to work and for children to spend time. He spends plenty of time in the nurseries speaking to all the team members; he recognises that the foundations of Little Garden are its people, so hearing their voice regularly is vitally important.
His vision for the children comes from personal experience…
“As a child in the 1970’s I was raised in rural Nottinghamshire, on the edge of Sherwood Forest. The world was regarded as a safer place than today and we were allowed to wander off and play for hours on end in the forest and fields – it was a dreamy time and I have deeply fond memories of playing hide and seek, making dens in the forest and just wandering around in the fresh open air.
Today our world is full of fear and distrust with risks that were unheard of back then. Many children will never get to experience the wonderful things that I took for granted, I want to change that and create a childcare business that enables team members to become part of a family who are devoted to nurture and care for children and deliver inspiring fun learning activities; indoors, outdoors, in town and out of town.
I share my memories with my daughters all the time (they have even visited and enjoyed the places where these memories were created). My eldest daughter is now ensuring my grandson, Oliver, gets his full quota of memorable fun and learning.
When a child leaves the nursery for their next step in life, our goal should be to ensure they take with them wonderful memories of the fun things they experienced – memories to share with the next generation.”
